The Drop In Foundation was established in the end of 1991, its beginning is connected with the change of political system and thus with the possibility to build a system of complex prevention and care of users of illegal drugs and their relatives which could suit best to given needs.
The founders of the foundation, MUDr.Jiří Presl and PHDr.Ivan Douda, wanted to establish an institution that would be through its activivites continuation of the former state Center of Drug Addiction FNII (Středisko drogových závislostí FNII) - where both of them worked from 1982 to 1991 - but which would be less influenced by the system of state drug politics limiting the care of addicted to a pure medical model.
In the beginning of 1999 the foundation Drop In was changed into new legal entitiy - the Center of Prevention and Cure of Drug Addictions - DROP IN o.p.s., registred non-state medical centre. The conception and philosophy of Drop In o.p.s. are aimed to outpatient contact, first aid, advisory and drug problems therapy in intention so called HARM REDUCTION - i.e. racional reduction of risks that arise from drug problems as a whole. One of the priorities is also prevention of HIV infection among persons that use intravenously = into vein. Another priority of Drop In o.p.s. are different kinds of preventive activities.
Since its foundation Drop In o.p.s. has supported pragmatic view to solving drug problems and has tried to affect public attitude to drug problems in the sense of realistic understanding to the given sphere.
